Design for the product and route
Packaging should reflect product sensitivity, handling method, journey length, climate, stacking, storage and final distribution. A pack that works for a short domestic route may fail during ocean transit or outdoor storage.
- Moisture, oxygen, light and temperature exposure
- Vibration, impact, compression and puncture risk
- Container, pallet and warehouse constraints
Specify what can be measured
State materials, dimensions, tolerances, closure, liner, barrier, print, unit weight and performance standards. For food, chemicals or regulated goods, also identify contact, safety and dangerous-goods requirements.
- Primary, secondary and transport packaging
- Net and gross weight tolerances
- Pallet pattern, wrapping and securing
- Required samples or pre-production approval
Align marks and destination rules
Labels and shipping marks should be approved before production. Confirm language, product name, batch or lot, dates, origin, handling symbols, barcodes and importer information against the destination and contract.
- Avoid unapproved brand or certification claims
- Keep inner and outer pack information consistent
- Photograph approved packing before dispatch where agreed
